"Let´s Check Our Eyes" (Matt.6:22-23)

A SPIRITUAL CHECK-UP
“LET’S CHECK OUR EYES”
Matthew 6:22-23
Introduction:
A. What is that in your eye?

B. Don’t you hate to get something in your eye?
·        You try to blink it out.
·        You try to rub it out.
·        You try to wipe it out.
·        You try to wash it out.
·        Sometimes we go to another for help.
·        Sometimes we go to a doctor for help.

C. What’s in your eye tonight?

I. Do you have a Light in your Eyes?

A. Light is a great help.
ILL: Have you ever had the electricity go out?
You needed a light in the night.

B. Light can also hurt.
ILL: When you turn it on quickly.

            1. We can get used to the darkness.
                        (Jn.3:17-18)
                        Are we changing the world
or is the world changing us?

            2. We need to stay used to the light.
                        (Eph.5:11-13)
·        The Light of God’s Son. (Jn.1)
·        The Light of God’s Children. (Matt.6)
·        The Light of God’s Word. (Ps.119)
·        The Light of God’s Spirit. “enlightenment”

When you are exposed to the light, does it hurt or help?

II. Do you have a Lust in your Eye?

A. The World tries to place a lust before our eyes. (I Jn.2:16)
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
            1. This may be sexual/physical lust. (II Pt.2:14)
14Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
            2. This may be financial lust.

B. We must guard our eyes from trash.
EX: My goggles worn during mowing/sawing.
EX: God gave you eyelids for a reason.

III. Do you have a Log in your Eye? (Matt.7:1-5)

A. What is a hypocrite?

            1. Someone who judges others by a different standard.
EX: Woman taken in adultery. Where is the man?
            2. Someone who judges others by a different timing.
EX: Parents quick to jump on other’s children.
            3. Someone who judges others with a different intensity.
EX: Politicians who judge other party differently.

B. We need to judge ourselves before we judge others.

            1. The Bible doesn’t say don’t judge.
            2. Sometimes judging is right.
EX: The Law Court, the Church Court,
The Family Court, The Personal Court

            3. We must judge self first—remove the log.
Judge others by the same standard, timing, intensity.

IV. Do you have a Liquid (Tear) in your Eye?

A. Tears can be a good thing.
            Have a good cry.
            Real men do cry.

 B. Tears can be a bad thing.

·        A sign of danger/fear.
·        A sign of desperation.
·        A sign of discouragement.

C. Let God wipe away your tears.

            1. He can now. (I Pt.5:7; Ps.116:8)
7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

            2. He will ultimately. (Rev.21:4)
4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Conclusion:
A. When you have something in your eye you need to go to
someone—you need a physician.
B. You need to go to the Great Physician.
C. He can get it out.
