John 13:1-17

Introduction:

A.  We usually look at this as an example of Jesus' humility.

B.  Let us also look at this as a teaching of disciples' responsibility.

 

I.  Sin's Contamination.  (6-7)

 

A.  Sin defiles in our daily walk.

B.  We need daily confession and cleansing.

 

            ILL:  A picture of a man walking back from Roman bath.

                     Gets feet dirty.  Needs only feet cleansed.

                        EX:  Like we wash our hands continually.

 

 

II.  Sin's Separation.  (8-11)

 

A.  Unrepented sin for a Christian can separate us from God

      temporarily.  (Ps.66:18;  Isaiah 59:1-2)

 

B.  Unrepented sin for a lost man can separate from God eternally.

            EX:  Judas Iscariot

 

 

III.  Sin's Liberation.  (12-17)

 

A.  We are to Serve Others Humbly, as Jesus did.

 

B.  We are to Save Others Faithfully, as Jesus did.

 

            1.  We can't save their soul.

            2.  We can save their lives from sin.

                  Help others escape sin and wash off the filth.

                        (Jude 22-23)

                        a.  Confronting.

                        b.  Encouraging.

                        c.  Comforting.

                        d.  Evangelizing.
